Checking a web shop:
the technical checklist

What a shop really does only shows in the browser. This checklist walks through cookies, banner, accessibility, product pages and checkout, one after the other.

Six places to check separately

A home page test is not enough: payment providers often appear only in the checkout, unit prices only on the product, and tracking scripts sometimes only on subpages.

  1. List the services that load

Open home, category, product, cart and checkout without accepting the cookie banner. Note every third party and when it was first called.

  2. Test “Reject”

Click Reject in the banner and reload the page. Whatever still sends data to advertising or analytics services afterwards is set up wrong in the banner tool or the tag manager.

  3. Test before consent

Under Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC, only what is strictly necessary may run before consent. So check the state before any click.

  4. Check accessibility

Images without alt text, fields without labels, too little contrast and buttons without names show up in an automated test of the home, product and checkout page.

  5. Look at product and price details

Unit price, included VAT, shipping costs, delivery time and manufacturer details can only be judged where a concrete offer is shown.

  6. Repeat after changes

After plugin, theme or payment provider updates, an old report no longer holds. Repeat the technical check after every significant change.

What an automated report can do, and what not

It can show reproducibly which pages were opened, which hosts answered and what loaded before and after consent. It cannot replace legal advice and does not know internal contracts, consent records or individual business models.

That is why konformia states, for each point, what was measured and how to fix it, and marks points that could not be checked technically.
