GPSR: what every
product page must show
Since 13 December 2024 the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 applies. Selling online, you show at the offer who makes the product and how to reach them.
Four details at the offer
Art. 19 of the regulation applies directly in every member state. The details must be clear and visible at the offer, that is on the product page.
| What | EU reference |
|---|---|
| Manufacturer with postal and email address Name, registered trade name or registered trade mark of the manufacturer, with the postal and email address where they can be contacted. If you are the manufacturer, your details go there. | Art. 19(a) Regulation (EU) 2023/988 |
| Responsible person in the EU Only if the manufacturer is not established in the EU: name, postal and email address of the responsible person in the Union (Art. 16(1)). | Art. 19(b) Regulation (EU) 2023/988 |
| Product identification A picture of the product, its type and any other product identifier such as model, type or batch. | Art. 19(c) Regulation (EU) 2023/988 |
| Warnings and safety information Whatever must be on the product, the packaging or an accompanying document is also in the offer, in a language consumers in the delivery country understand. | Art. 19(d) Regulation (EU) 2023/988 |
Step by step
Collect the data
Once per manufacturer: name, postal address, email; for manufacturers outside the EU also the responsible person. Usually on the packaging or from your supplier.
Shopify
Under Settings, Custom data, Products create metafields (manufacturer, address, email, responsible person, safety information), fill them per product and add them to the product template in the theme editor as a text block with a dynamic source.
WooCommerce
Germanized and German Market bring their own manufacturer fields. Without them: a product attribute per manufacturer or a custom field in the product template, visible below the price or in a tab that is recognisable without clicking.
Check
Open one product page per manufacturer: are name, address and email visible, without signing in and without a PDF?
Questions
Does GPSR apply to retailers too, not only manufacturers?
Art. 19 covers every economic operator making products available online, so retailers too.
Is a link to a PDF with manufacturer details enough?
The regulation asks for clear and visible details in the offer. A download is a detour; details directly on the product page meet it without weighing.
What a scan shows
It opens real product pages and looks for a labelled manufacturer detail with an address. If it is missing, the report names the page and where to add the field in your shop system. Whether the details are correct only the retailer can know.
As of 11 October 2026. We name the reference so you can read it yourself; this is not legal advice.
